Use digital tools effectively and safely; to develop safe and responsible practices online
Participants:
Students in Mr. Holliday's 8th grade U.S. History classes in the Mt. Lebanon School District, PA
Educators and other school officials who are interested to see the work and interactions of students
Description:
This wiki is a workshop for student exploration, interaction, and creation in the context of their unit project assignments. Students are encouraged to work within or across class periods with students who share similar learning interests.
At the beginning of a unit, students are given a unit theme and time period of study. Each student then:
identifies a topic of interest for investigation (that both relates to the specified unit theme and time period of study).
develops a research question/issue to explore.
creates a specific learning objective for their peers/teacher
composes an oral presentation and visual aid based upon the objective.
This wiki has been created to help each class period:
organize their topics.
create essential questions.
identify specific learning goals.
select appropriate visual aids.
This wiki is to be used throughout the entire research cycle. As students are challenged to select higher level research questions/issues, I hope to see this wiki become a meaningful tool.
How This Wiki Works
Use the links in the sidebar at the left, to access various pages. I have created one main page for each class period. These pages are most important because they serve as the common thinking and planning page for each class period. As a teacher, I will use these pages to monitor your progression through the research cycle. You have five tasks:
Enter your name in an available presentation slot. This list will be used to determine the order of presentations.
Record your preliminary topic idea for the assigned theme and time period of study.
Replace your preliminary topic with a more focused question or issue for further research.
List your learning objective(s) here for the teacher/students to access.
Finally, indicate what visual aid you have selected for your presentation.
Reminders
As stated in class, this sole purpose of this wIki is for planning/collaboration on the unit projects and I expect all students to follow these guidelines. There are other forums/technologies for other types of communication. All students should read the information on the following link: My Rules for Online Safety.
